Chemical of the Week – Propyne

Propyne: Flammable and Unstable Under Pressure

Propyne (methylacetylene) is a highly flammable gas used in specialized welding and chemical synthesis. For hazmat teams, its volatility and tendency to form explosive mixtures with air demand strict control of ignition sources and careful handling of pressurized containers. Rapid leak detection and ventilation are key to minimizing fire and explosion risks during response.

Have fun and let us know how you did in researching the hazards.
