The UAVs Special Project is split into two focus areas – law enforcement use and fire service and emergency management use. Overall, the group is working to highlight the importance of allowing first responders the use of UAVs to assist them in meeting their missions and keeping responders safe. Once the group has finalized its position, leaders will meet with the Federal Aviation Administration to represent the first responder voice on this issue.
The UAVs project was launched in October of 2014 and is identified as a long-term project due to the amount of research, work, and effort needed in this area. This group will continue to meet as new guidance and regulations are released.
