On Tuesday, thick, black smoke from a burning building on Main Street enveloped an area north of downtown.
It’s very likely some, if not all, of the 16 firefighters who battled the blaze will write of the event into a new registry started in January at the Anderson Fire Department.
The registry puts Anderson in the forefront of a national movement, officials say. The registry keeps track of their exposures to various substances and chemicals while in the line of duty. The registry should help with future disability and insurance claims because of illnesses.
