NASA recently introduced AUDREY, an artificial intelligence system that could revolutionize how firefighters safely battle fires.

AUDREY, the Assistant for Understanding Data through Reasoning, Extraction and sYnthesis, is part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Next Generation First Responder program, an initiative meant to develop new ways to keep first responders safe through enhanced situational awareness and communication through data.

Bombings in New York and New Jersey over the weekend -- as well as the discovery of several unexploded devices -- have led authorities to believe there may be a terror cell at work in those two states, law enforcement officials told CNN Monday.

And a manhunt is under way for 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami after New York police identified him as a suspect in connection with the bombing Saturday night in New York's Chelsea neighborhood, which wounded 29 people.

It's taken years to get crews into a standardized mindset to practice incident command (IC) and mass casualty incident (MCI) management in a non-chaotic and coordinated manner.

Progressive systems now routinely set up MCI operations at incidents that tax their available resources, request pre-arranged MCI waves/levels of units or task forces, and refrain from scooping up the first patients that come to them.
